Brisbane has one of the best climates in the world. Unfortunately, pests think so too. Our warm, humid weather creates a breeding ground for insects year-round.
However, different pests are active at different times. Here is what Brisbane homeowners need to prepare for throughout the year.
Spring (September – November): The Awakening As the temperature rises, nature wakes up. This is prime breeding season.
- The Threat: Large Cockroaches (American) begin flying in from outside. Spiders (Huntsmans and St Andrews Cross) become more active in gardens.
- Action: Now is the best time for your Annual General Pest Spray to create a barrier before summer hits.
Summer (December – February): The Termite Danger Zone High humidity and rain make this peak season for Subterranean Termites.
- The Threat: Termites are most active in moist soil. You may also see “Alates” (flying termites) swarming before storms. Ants will also invade kitchens looking for water.
- Action: Ensure your Termite Management System is up to date. Keep weep holes clear of grass.
Autumn (March – May): The Rodent Migration As the nights get cooler, pests look for warmth.
- The Threat: Rats and Mice move from the garden into your roof void. You might hear scratching at night.
- Action: Check your roof for holes and trim overhanging branches (which act as “rat bridges”).
Winter (June – August): The Silent Months While insect activity slows down, it doesn’t stop.
- The Threat: Termites never sleep. They are active 24/7, 365 days a year, protected inside your warm walls.
- Action: Winter is actually a great time for a Termite Inspection, as our thermal cameras can pick up the heat of a nest clearly against the cooler ambient temperature.
